Le Plan is a high mountain refuge at an elevation of 2.129m (6,984ft) above the sea level, located in the Savoie department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of the French Alps.

The road to the summit, located within the Vanoise National Park, is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. It’s impassable from October to May. Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point. Stay away if you're scared of heights. Expect a trail pretty steep. Wet conditions may make for tough driving along the muddy road. 4x4 required.

The Unpaved Road to Monte Corrasi in Sardinia Runs Through a Lunar Landscapehard

The Unpaved Road to Monte Corrasi in Sardinia Runs Through a Lunar Landscape

🇮🇹 Italy

# Monte Corrasi: Sardinia's Wild Mountain Drive Buckle up for one of the Mediterranean's most thrilling and remote adventures! Monte Corrasi rises to 1,463m (4,799ft) on the rugged eastern coast of Sardinia, nestled within the stunning Parco Nazionale del Golfo di Orosei e del Gennargentu in Nuoro province. The Strada del Monte Corrasi is seriously not for the faint of heart. This completely unpaved, wickedly narrow road climbs relentlessly with 25 hairpin turns that'll keep your knuckles white the entire way up. You'll need a high-clearance vehicle—there's no way around it. The route follows old forest roads and occasionally cuts across the switchbacks, making for an intense 6.2 km (3.85 miles) push upward with a brutal 751m elevation gain and an average gradient of 12.11%. Starting from Strada Provinciale 22 (SP-22), the road is drivable all the way to a parking area near the summit, where private vehicles have to call it a day. And the payoff? Absolutely worth it. The summit looks like you've landed on another planet—high winds have stripped it bare, creating a lunar landscape scattered with karst formations, caves, gullies, and dramatic rock pinnacles in wild shapes. The views down into the valley below? Utterly breathtaking. This is a bucket-list drive for serious road-trippers who crave remote, raw adventure.

Where is Pico El Morredero?moderate

Where is Pico El Morredero?

🇪🇸 Spain

Okay, picture this: you're in the Province of León, Spain, ready for an adventure. You're headed to Pico El Morredero, a mountain peak soaring to 2,021 meters (that's 6,630 feet!). You'll find it south-southeast of El Bierzo, in the Montes Aquilanos range, part of the bigger Montes de León. Up top, you'll see some cool communication towers. Heads up: the 3.4 km (2.11 mile) road to the summit is allllll unpaved. Seriously, leave your low-rider at home – you'll want a 4x4 for this one. This east-west route branches off Road LE-CV-192/21, near the Albergue de San Francisco. Keep in mind that you're pretty high up, so the weather can be a beast, especially in winter when the road is usually snowed in. But if you catch it right, the views are totally worth the trek!

Driving the wooden Šćepan Polje bridge

🌍 Montenegro

Okay, picture this: you're cruising along the M18, right where Montenegro and Bosnia & Herzegovina shake hands. Suddenly, bam! You're face-to-face with the Šćepan Polje bridge – and trust me, it’s a stunner. This isn't your average overpass; it's a 66-meter wooden beauty that gracefully leaps over the Tara River. Seriously, with the Drina River carving out the border right there, the views are epic. Get ready for a seriously memorable border crossing!

Passo Vezzenamoderate

Passo Vezzena

🇮🇹 Italy

Okay, buckle up for Passo Vezzena, a seriously stunning mountain pass in Trentino, northern Italy! This baby climbs to 1,402 meters (that's 4,599 feet!), and getting there is an adventure in itself. The road, known as SS349, is paved, but don't let that fool you. Think hairpin turns, narrow stretches, and enough twists to make you dizzy – even seasoned drivers need to pay attention. Trust me, it's a workout! You've got three main routes to tackle this beauty. From Trento, it's a 39km climb, gaining a whopping 1,450 meters, with an average grade of 3.1% and some punchy 9% sections. Coming from Asiago? That's a 21.4km ascent with a more gentle 1.9% average, but still some 6.4% grades. For a real leg burner, try the SP133 from Levico Terme – just 11.8km, but with a hefty 938 meters of elevation gain and gradients hitting almost 13%! Along the way, prepare for incredible scenery. You might even see the SP18 to Ranzo carved into the rock, and catch a glimpse of Picco Palù (Großer Moosstock). It’s the perfect recipe for unforgettable views around every bend.
